Lucky ticket sold in Illinois wins $5 million
RELEASE DATE: 4/15/2017
The first Mega Millions Match 5 winning ticket of 2017 that included the optional Megaplier purchase was sold in Illinois! The ticket is worth a whopping $5 million because the 5x Megaplier was drawn. It matched the five white balls drawn Friday night – 5, 10, 55, 60 and 73 – just missing the gold Mega Ball of 12 for the jackpot.
The Megaplier is an additional $1 purchase, available in most states, that multiplies all non-jackpot prizes by as much as five times. For the April 14 drawing, 134,434 winning tickets included the Megaplier, with prizes ranging from $5 up to $5 million. In total, Friday night’s drawing produced 984,930 winning tickets at all prize levels.
The jackpot rolls to an estimated $37 million ($22 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, April 18. It was last won in Arkansas on March 31, the very first Mega Millions jackpot won in that state. That was the second jackpot won in 2017; the first was a $191 million prize won in California on January 27.
