As summer turns to fall, the Mega Millions jackpot has been won again! A lucky ticket-holder in New York has matched all six numbers drawn Friday night, September 22 – the white balls 5, 39, 54, 63 and 66, plus the Mega Ball 15. The ticket is worth $105 million ($66.4 million cash); the final jackpot amount is slightly above the estimated value at the time of the drawing.
Friday’s drawing also produced two tickets that matched the five white balls to win the game’s second prize. One, sold in New York, included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states) to win $5 million when the 5X Megaplier was drawn; the other was sold in Michigan and is worth $1 million.
September is a popular month for Mega Millions jackpot wins – in the game’s 15 year history, 19 jackpots have been won during September including Friday night’s win.
This is the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won this year. It had been rolling since it was last won on August 11, when Patricia Busking won a whopping $393 million prize in Illinois. Earlier 2017 jackpots were won in California ($191 million on January 27 and $61 million on April 28) and Arkansas ($177 million on March 31).
In this jackpot run, more than 13.9 million prizes have been won at all levels since August 11, including 12 prizes of $1 million or more.
The jackpot resets to $15 million ($9 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, September 26.
