Texas has FIRST $5 million Mega Millions Megaplier winner!

RELEASE DATE 11/27/2013

Winning Quick Pick ticket was FREE promotional ticket from Buda retailer

(AUSTIN) – The Texas Lottery® today announced that the first $5 million second-tier Mega Millions ticket came from a Texas retailer. The winning Quick Pick, a free promotional Megaplier  ticket for Tuesday night’s drawing, was part of a Mega Millions ticket purchase from the Sac-N-Pac #402 located at 204 FM 2001 in Buda.

“Everything really is bigger in Texas,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “Texas was the first state to use a Megaplier for the Mega Millions game and we look forward to meeting the first $5 million second-tier Megaplier winner.”

The winning ticket matched five numbers drawn plus the Megaplier but not the Mega Ball. The winning numbers were 27-44-59-74-75 Mega Ball (3) Megaplier (5). With no jackpot tickets sold for last night’s drawing, the estimated jackpot for the Nov. 29 Mega Millions drawing is $230 million.

In October, when changes were made to the Mega Millions game, the Megaplier, a multiplier option which players can purchase for an additional $1 to increase their non-jackpot prizes, was expanded so that a Mega Millions ticket could win up to $5 million without matching all six numbers.

Mega Millions is currently played in 45 jurisdictions: 43 states plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are broadcast Tuesday and Friday evenings at 10:12 p.m. Central Time. Revenue from every Mega Millions ticket sold remains in the state in which the ticket was sold. For more information, visit www.megamillions.com.
