Washington man claims $25 million Mega Millions jackpot

RELEASE DATE: 7/20/2016

On Wednesday, July 20, a Washington resident stepped forward as the winner of the $25 million Mega Millions jackpot. The jackpot had remained unclaimed for just one day since the drawing on Tuesday, July 19. The winner presented the ticket at Washington’s Lottery headquarters in Olympia.

The winner purchased one $5 Mega Millions ticket at a White Center Quick Stop Food Mart (10723 1st Ave S Seattle, WA) using Quick Pick. He chose the one-time cash payment option of approximately $16 million.

This is Washington’s fifth Mega Millions jackpot winner – the second in 2016. Out of the last three Mega Millions jackpot winners, two have been from Washington State. The most recent Washington winner won $157 million in March. In total, four jackpots have been won this year – two in Washington, one in New York, and a $536 million prize won July 8 in Indiana, which has yet to be claimed.

When someone in Washington wins a Mega Millions jackpot, others in the state benefit, too. Quick Stop Food Mart, the retailer that sold the winning ticket, will receive a $50,000 selling bonus.

The jackpot resets at $15 million for the drawing on Friday, July 22.

Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
