Mega Millions is heating up! The jackpot jumps to an estimated $444 million ($281.1 million cash) after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 9, 21, 34, 42 and 50, plus the gold Mega Ball 21. If the next drawing on Friday, May 31, is won at that level, it would be the eighth largest prize since the game began in 2002.
While the jackpot rolls, there were other big winners Tuesday night as the drawing produced a total of 926,422 winning tickets at all prize levels. Leading the way were five tickets that matched the five white balls to win the game’s second prize. Two included the optional Megaplier, which was 2X Tuesday night, and are worth $2 million each; they were sold in Virginia and West Virginia. The other three million dollar tickets were sold in California, Michigan and New Jersey. And for matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 22 tickets won the game’s $10,000 third prize. Four of those are actually worth $20,000 each because they also included the Megaplier.
Since the last jackpot was won in Missouri on March 12, there have been more than 14.6 million
million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 29 worth $1 million or more.
In addition to the $50 million prize won on March 12, other Mega Millions jackpots awarded this year include $437 million in New York on January 1 (currently the eighth largest in the game’s history) and $273 million in New Jersey on March 1.
