For just the third time in 2019, the Mega Millions jackpot has surpassed the $300 million mark! The largest prize offered since June 7 will be up for grabs next Tuesday, December 10 – an estimated $314 million ($212.3 million cash). The jackpot continues to roll after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 20, 31, 40, 46 and 61, plus the gold Mega Ball 20.
It means that the excitement of a big rolling jackpot continues as we get closer to the holidays! Just a year ago, the jackpot kept growing in the days leading up to Christmas, until it was won at $437 million on January 1, 2019.
The last time the Mega Millions jackpot was actually won during the month of December was in 2013, when the third-largest prize in the history of the game was won on December 17, 2013 – $648 million!
While the jackpot continues to grow, plenty of players won prizes in the December 6 drawing, with a total of 745,254 winning tickets at all prize levels. Twenty-five tickets matched the four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game’s $10,000 third prize. Three of those are actually worth $50,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier (an extra purchase available in most states), which was 5X on Friday night.
Since the jackpot was last won in Texas on September 24, there have been more than 10.5 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 15 worth $1 million or more.
In addition to the $225 million jackpot won on September 24 and the $437 million prize won in New York on January 1, other jackpots awarded this year include $273 million in New Jersey on March 1, $50 million in Missouri on March 12, $522 million in California on June 7 and $168 million in New Hampshire on July 23.
