RELEASE DATE: 5/8/2021
The excitement keeps building as the Mega Millions® jackpot grows! No ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 5, 10, 19, 21 and 50, plus the gold Mega Ball 10 – so the jackpot for next Tuesday, May 11, is an estimated $396 million ($272.3 million cash). If won at that level, it would be the 13th largest jackpot in the history of the game!
While the jackpot remains elusive, there were plenty of winners in the May 7 drawing – a total of 1,005,981 winning tickets at all other prize levels were sold across the country. Two of them, both in Florida, matched the five white balls to win the game’s $1 million second prize. For matching the four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 39 tickets won $10,000 each; 12 of those are actually worth $40,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier, an extra $1 purchase available in most states. Friday night’s Megaplier was 4X.
In total, since the jackpot was last won on February 16, there have been more than 14.1 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 23 worth $1 million or more.
The year started out with a bang, with the first Mega Millions jackpot win of 2021 – a whopping $1.05 billion – going to a group of players in Michigan on January 22. It was the second-largest jackpot in the history of the game. Not even a month later, $96 million was won by a New York couple on February 16.
