The Mega Millions® jackpot rolls again! After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 20, 32, 35, 47 and 64, plus the gold Mega Ball 18 – next Tuesday’s jackpot is an estimated $383 million ($277.3 million cash)!
Interestingly, there has never been a Mega Millions jackpot this large offered during the month of September in the game’s 19-year history. Prior to this roll, the largest prize ever offered in September was $336 million on September 28, 2018; the jackpot was not won at that level but continued on its epic march to $1.5 billion, the eye-popping amount finally won on October 23 that year.
While the jackpot grows, there are plenty of other winners – almost 14. 5 million winning tickets at all prize levels have been sold since the jackpot was last won in Illinois on June 8. That includes 26 worth $1 million or more.
There were two big winners Friday night, as tickets matching the five white balls were sold in Florida and New York; each wins $1 million. For matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 12 tickets won $10,000 each; one of those is actually worth $20,000 because it included the optional Megaplier, available in most states for a $1 extra purchase. Friday night’s Megaplier was 2X. In total, there were 769,020 winning tickets at all prize levels in the September 10 drawing.
Four Mega Millions jackpots have been won to date in 2021. Most recently, a $55 million prize was won in Illinois on June 8. To start 2021, the second largest jackpot in Mega Millions history – $1.05 billion – was won on January 22 by a group of players in Michigan. The other two jackpots awarded this year were $516 million in Pennsylvania on May 21, and $96 million in New York on February 16.
