RELEASE DATE: 9/18/2021
What could be the twelfth largest jackpot in Mega Millions® history will be offered next Tuesday, September 21! The jackpot rolls again after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 17, 32, 40, 59 and 61, plus the gold Mega Ball 18. Tuesday’s estimated jackpot is $432 million ($312.8 million cash)!
The September 21 drawing will be the 30th of this current jackpot run, which began June 11 after the last jackpot was won in Illinois on June 8. In that time, there have been more than 16.1 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 29 worth $1 million or more.
In Friday night’s drawing, there were 916,591 winning tickets at all prize levels. One, sold in New Jersey, matched the five white balls to win $1 million. Eighteen tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game’s third prize. One of those tickets is worth $30,000 because it included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states), which was 3X Friday night. The other 17 third-prize tickets win $10,000 each.
Four Mega Millions jackpots have been won to date in 2021. Most recently, a $55 million prize was won in Illinois on June 8. To start 2021, the second largest jackpot in Mega Millions history – $1.05 billion – was won on January 22 by a group of players in Michigan. The other two jackpots awarded this year were $516 million in Pennsylvania on May 21, and $96 million in New York on February 16.
