Just a month after a big Mega Millions® prize was won in New York, the jackpot was hit again, this time on the other side of the country in Arizona! One ticket matched all six numbers drawn October 22 – the white balls 9, 14, 26, 29 and 66, plus the gold Mega Ball 22 – to win the prize of $108 million ($75.2 million cash). It’s the second Mega Millions jackpot ever won in Arizona; the first was a whopping $414 million prize on June 9, 2020.
Also on Friday night, one ticket sold in Georgia matched the five white balls to win $1 million. Thirteen tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to take the game’s third prize. Four of those are worth $30,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier, a $1 extra purchase available in most states; the Megaplier for this drawing was 3X. The other nine third prize tickets win the standard $10,000 prize. In total, the October 22 drawing produced 480,122 winning tickets at all prize levels, plus the lucky jackpot winner.
There have now been six Mega Millions jackpots won so far this year, which started out with a bang – a $1.05 billion prize on January 22 went to a group of Michigan players. A group of Pennsylvania players shared a $516 million jackpot on May 21. An Illinois player took home a $55 million prize from the June 8 drawing. And two jackpots have been won in New York – $96 million on February 16 and most recently $431 million on September 21.
The jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday, October 26, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($13.9 million cash).
