RELEASE DATE: 3/9/2022
The second Mega Millions jackpot won in 2022 goes to a lucky ticket-holder in New York! A single ticket matched all six numbers in the March 8 drawing – the white balls 7, 18, 38, 58 and 64, plus the gold Mega Ball 24 – to win the prize of $128 million ($85.8 million cash). The final jackpot amount increased from the estimated value due to strong sales.
In addition to the jackpot winning ticket, there were 461,580 other prizes won Tuesday night across all prize tiers. Nine tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to take the game’s third prize. Three of those are worth $30,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states), which was 3X for this drawing. The other six third prize tickets win the standard $10,000 prize.
The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won at $426 million in California on January 28, just over five weeks ago. Although there were only 11 drawings in this jackpot run, more than 4.6 million winning tickets were sold at all prize levels since January 28. They include five second prizes – one worth $4 million (sold in Connecticut) and four worth the standard $1 million (two in Indiana and one each in New Jersey and Washington).
The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, March 11, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($13.4 million cash).
