The Mega Millions® jackpot only rolled for five weeks since it was last won, but there will be plenty of celebrating in Minnesota! A single ticket sold in the state matched all six numbers in the April 12 drawing – the white balls 2, 8, 14, 20 and 31, plus the gold Mega Ball 17 – to win the prize of $110 million ($66.9 million cash). The final jackpot amount was higher than the initial estimate based on actual sales. It’s the first Mega Millions jackpot won in Minnesota since the state joined the game in 2010!
There were other big winners Tuesday night. Four tickets matched all five white balls to win the game’s second prize. Two were sold in New Jersey, one of which included the optional Megaplier (available in most states for an extra $1 purchase). With the 2X Megaplier drawn, that ticket is worth $2 million. The other New Jersey Match 5 winning ticket is worth $1 million, and $1 million tickets were also sold in Florida and Maryland.
Fourteen tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game’s third prize. Six of those are worth $20,000 each because they also included the optional Megaplier; the other eight win the standard $10,000 prize.
In addition to the jackpot winning ticket, there were 408,487 other prizes won Tuesday night across all prize tiers. During this 10-drawing roll since the last jackpot was won on March 8, more than 3.6 million winning tickets were sold at all prize levels. They include ten second prizes worth $1 million or more (two each in Michigan and New Jersey, and one each in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts and Washington).
Two previous jackpots have been won this year. The first was a $426 million prize in California on January 28; the second was won in New York on March 8 at $128 million.
The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, April 15, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($12.1 million cash).
