RELEASE DATE: 8/27/2025
It has been almost five months since the new Mega Millions® launched last April, and Tuesday night’s drawing produced the second-highest player winnings in a single drawing since that time – more than $10.8 million! There were two Match 5 prize-winning tickets in the August 26 drawing – one sold in Mississippi for $2 million and one in Florida for $3 million. Winning tickets at all other prize levels totaled more than $5.8 million.
In the new $5 version of Mega Millions, a random multiplier is now included with every purchase, multiplying the base prize by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X. The game features a significant increase in prizes compared to the previous $2 game – since the relaunch, more than $239 million in prizes have been won across all non-jackpot prize tiers and multipliers. Under the old prize structure, those winning tickets would have produced just $55.5 million in prizes.
During this period, there have been 18 Match 5 winning tickets, representing total prizes of $49 million for that prize tier alone. They were won in 12 different jurisdictions: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington. A total of 214 third-tier prizes, from $20,000 to $100,000, have been won in 37 different jurisdictions across the country.
The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in Virginia on June 27; that $348 million prize was claimed by a player who chose to remain anonymous. The jackpot continues rolling and is estimated at $277 million ($124.6 million cash) for the next drawing on Friday, August 29.

Tickets are $5 each and include a randomly assigned multiplier, multiplying the base prize levels by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated good causes and retailer commissions.
Drawings are conducted at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. The overall odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23; the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
