As the excitement builds around the country, the estimated jackpot for tonight’s Mega Millions® drawing has been increased to $980 million ($452.2 million cash). If won at that level, it would be the eighth largest since the game began in 2002; only seven jackpots exceeding $1 billion have been higher.
Friday night’s drawing will be conducted as usual at the WSB-TV studio in Atlanta, Georgia, at 11 p.m. Eastern time. Soon afterwards, the draw video will be available on the Mega Millions website.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won in Virginia on June 27. We remind players to check their tickets – there are eight prize tiers in addition to the jackpot. In the most recent drawing on November 11, there were a total of 809,030 winning tickets at all non-jackpot prize levels. In the current jackpot run through 39 drawings, there have been almost 13.2 million prize-winning tickets, from $10 to $5 million.

Mega Millions is the only lottery game that has produced seven jackpot wins exceeding $1 billion each – all in different states. Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $5 each and include a randomly assigned multiplier, multiplying the base prize levels by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated good causes and retailer commissions.
Drawings are conducted at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. The overall odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23; the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
