Waldorf Man Drives His Way to $1 Million Win

Ysmaille Castor

Drawing Date: 1/17/2014

January 21, 2014 - When Ysmaille Castor found an old Mega Millions ticket from last year under his microwave he decided to play the numbers again, hoping for better luck. The Waldorf, Md., man certainly found his luck on Friday night – to the tune of $1 million.

Ysmaille, who is a bus driver in Washington, DC, decided to check his ticket on Saturday to see if he had won this time around. That’s when he noticed that he had matched five out of six numbers, which equated to a $1 million win.

The 52-year-old is no stranger to good luck, “I actually won $5,400 in Virginia last year,” he said smiling. “This is just a little better. It’s good seeing this many zeroes on a check. I’ve always wanted to know how it feels to be a millionaire”.

Ysmaille came to Maryland Lottery headquarters this morning, with his family in tow, ahead of the snowstorm. The father-of-four has big plans for his new winnings. After paying off his truck and mortgage, Ysmaille will set up a college fund for his children who are 20 months, three, five and 19.

The retailer, Westlake Liquors, located at 1182 Smallwood Dr. in Waldorf will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket. This is the second time this year that a $1 million winning second-tier Mega Millions ticket was sold in Maryland, following an Anne Arundel County couple that claimed a $1 million ticket.
