As 2014 winds down, an estimated $172 million Mega Millions jackpot ($108 million cash option) is waiting to be won on December 30. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on December 26 – the white balls 2, 5, 10, 20 and 38, plus the Mega Ball of 14. Two tickets, both sold in New York, matched the first five numbers to win $1 million each.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for a whopping $326 million in New York on November 4. A New Yorker also took a $20 million jackpot on March 25.
Other 2014 jackpots were won in Tennessee ($61 million on January 3), in California ($30 million on April 4 and $180 million on August 22), in Pennsylvania ($149 million on May 20), in Michigan ($66 million on June 13) and in Texas ($33 million on June 27). The largest jackpot this year, and third-highest Mega Millions jackpot ever, was a $414 million prize split between winners in Florida and Maryland on March 18.
