The Mega Millions jackpot is again reaching lofty levels, with an estimated $156 million ($99 million cash option) up for grabs on Friday, December 26. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on December 23 – the white balls 4, 10, 31, 56 and 66, and the Mega Ball of 7. One ticket, sold in New Jersey, matched the first five numbers to win $1 million, just missing the Mega Ball for all the money.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for a whopping $326 million in New York on November 4. That jackpot was actually the largest amount ever won on a single ticket in the history of the Mega Millions game. Other jackpots have been higher, including the world record lotto jackpot of $656 million (on March 30, 2012), but they were divided among multiple winning tickets.
While the jackpot has not been won since November 4, in that time there have been more than 19 million winning tickets sold across all prize levels, from $1 to $1 million. Of those, 2.1 million tickets included the optional Megaplier, a $1 extra purchase which multiplies all non-jackpot wins by a factor of 2 to 5.
