The Mega Millions jackpot is getting hotter along with the temperatures this spring, with an estimated $194 million ($117 million cash) on tap for Friday, May 22. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn in the May 19 drawing – the white balls 10, 12, 21, 29 and 65, plus the gold Mega Ball 10.
There was one Match 5 winning ticket, worth $1 million, sold in Ohio.
Although there was no jackpot winner on May 19, there were almost 2.2 million winning tickets at all levels, including more than 216,000 that added the optional Megaplier. That $1 extra purchase has paid off handsomely this year, with the 5x Megaplier drawn almost half the time – 19 out of 40 drawings – since January 1. The Megaplier, available in most states, multiplies all non-jackpot prizes by a factor of 2x to 5x.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won on March 24 by a group of co-workers in New York. Two other jackpots have been won this year – $126 million on February 27 (also in New York) and $265 million won in Illinois on January 16.
