The Mega Millions Megaplier option is on a roll lately, with several recent Match 5 winning tickets including the extra $1 purchase to multiply their prizes by up to 5 times. In Friday night’s draw, one ticket sold in Michigan matched the first five numbers, 10, 36, 47, 63 and 74, and since that ticket’s owner added the Megaplier for an extra $1, the payoff is a whopping $5 million.
It’s the fourth time in just the last three months that a Match 5 winner was rewarded with a $5 million prize when the 5x Megaplier was drawn. Prior to the April 3 drawing, $5 million prizes have also been won this year in Arizona, Florida and Oklahoma. And just last week, a $2 million Match 5 prize was won in Florida.
The Megaplier option is available in most states, and increases all non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times; it costs an additional $1 per play.
Since no ticket in last night’s draw matched all six numbers including the Mega Ball, the jackpot rolls to $30 million for next Tuesday, April 7.
