The year 2015 is coming in with a bang as the Mega Millions jackpot jumps to an estimated $206 million ($131 million cash option) for the next drawing on Tuesday, January 6. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on January 2 – the white balls 13, 15, 35, 62 and 74, plus the Mega Ball of 12. Two tickets matched the first five numbers to win $1 million, one each in New Jersey and New York.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for $326 million in New York on November 4, the eighth largest Mega Millions jackpot in history and the most ever won on a single ticket. All of the larger jackpots have been shared among multiple winning tickets.
Although no one has hit the jackpot since November 4, there have been more than 25.2 million winning tickets sold at all levels since then, earning prizes from $1 all the way up to $1 million. Of those, 2.7 million have included the optional Megaplier, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by a factor of 2 to 5 based on the Megaplier number drawn. The Megaplier is available in most states for an additional $1 at the time of purchase.
