The excitement is building as the Mega Millions jackpot continues to rise, with an estimated $270 million prize ($177 million cash option) up for grabs on Friday, January 16 – an amount which ties the 13th largest jackpot in the game’s history. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on January 13 – the white balls 12, 20, 25, 50 and 51, plus the Mega Ball of 7.
For the second consecutive drawing, a Match 5 winning ticket included the optional Megaplier, this time in Arizona. That lucky ticket holder wins a whopping $5 million prize thanks to the 5x Megaplier drawn on Tuesday. Five other Match 5 winning tickets won $1 million each – two in Minnesota and one each in Florida, Michigan and New York.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for $326 million in New York on November 4. On Monday, the New York Lottery announced the lucky winner of that jackpot, the eighth largest Mega Millions jackpot in history and the most ever won on a single ticket. Claiming the prize was Harold Diamond, an 80-year-old retired school principal from Sullivan County, N.Y.
