One lucky ticket holder won the $134 million Mega Millions jackpot Friday night, as a ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers drawn – 13, 21, 28, 34 and 40, plus the gold Mega Ball 15. The cash value of the jackpot is $89.9 million. The final jackpot amount was increased slightly from the initial estimate of $133 million based on actual sales.
In addition to the jackpot winning ticket, two tickets matched the five white balls Friday night, one each in California and Virginia.
Since the jackpot was last won July 22, there have been more than 18.6 million winning tickets sold at all prize levels, including 23 worth $1 million or more.
It’s the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won to date in 2016, following earlier winners in New York (January 8), Washington (March 8 and July 19), Indiana (July 8), and Georgia and Virginia (which shared a July 22 jackpot).
