RELEASE DATE: 3/31/2018
Six years to the day after a record Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million, another huge jackpot was won on March 30! Friday night’s drawing produced a single winning ticket sold in New Jersey. The ticket matched all six numbers drawn – the white balls 11, 28, 31, 46 and 59, plus the gold Mega Ball 1.
The jackpot winner will receive $533 million ($324.6 million cash). That amount is the fourth largest jackpot in the history of the game! The final jackpot value was increased due to strong sales.
“Hearty congratulations to New Jersey for their big Mega Millions win,” said Gordon Medenica, Mega Millions Lead Director and Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director. “The whole country can’t wait to meet the newest millionaire, but we all shared in the fun of playing.”
March has been a popular month for Mega Millions – this is the eighteenth jackpot won during the month in the game’s nearly 16 year history. The March windfalls include the record Mega Millions prize of $656 million (March 30, 2012) and two other top ten jackpots in addition to Friday night’s bonanza.
Also Friday night, two tickets, sold in Ohio and Texas, matched the five white balls to win $1 million each.
In total, there were 2,765,128 winning tickets in the March 30 drawing at all prize levels, including the jackpot winner. In this jackpot run, since January 5 more than 17.6 million winning tickets were sold at all prize levels, including 38 worth $1 million or more.
The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won on January 5 at $451 million; a 20-year-old Florida man claimed that prize as the trustee of Secret 007, LLC.
The jackpot resets to its starting value of $40 million ($24 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, April 3.
