For the third time this year, the Mega Millions jackpot has surpassed $300 million! After no ticket matched all six numbers Friday night, the estimated jackpot for next Tuesday, September 25, will be $303 million ($176.8 million cash). The winning numbers for September 21 were the white balls 1, 2, 11, 52 and 64, plus the gold Mega Ball 9.
While the jackpot rolls, there were plenty of other winners Friday night. One ticket, sold in Michigan, matched the five white balls to win $1 million; it was the 115th million-dollar-plus second prize won in the game to date in 2018. Fourteen tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball for the game’s $10,000 third prize. Two of those are actually worth $40,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier (available in most states for an extra $1 purchase), which was 4x Friday night.
In total, there were 809,965 winning tickets Friday night at all prize levels. Since the last jackpot was won on July 24, there have been more than 9.1 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 16 worth $1 million or more.
A California office pool of 11 co-workers shared the last Mega Millions jackpot won – a whopping $543 million prize on July 24, the third largest in the game’s history. Three other jackpots have been won this year – $451 million on January 5 (Florida), $533 million on March 30 (New Jersey), and $142 million on May 4 (Ohio).
